“Having never been given the encouragement or training to do what I always wanted to do, I started and finished the course, gained a qualification and within 10 days of finishing the course I had been offered a job at a local secondary school in Lincoln – Thank you! ” Mr W
The qualification is aimed at anyone who is 19+ and wishes to work as a teaching assistant in a school or college setting. It is ideal to show an employer (current or future) that this career is for you! The qualification is an introduction to the knowledge and understanding needed to work in a school or college environment. It can apply to the many varied roles that full and part-time support staff may fulfil including teaching assistant, administrative roles, site support roles, technical roles, and volunteers, as well as other roles that work directly with children and young people in the learning environment.
Completion of this course will take about 90 hours and on average learners complete it within 4 – 8 weeks depending on the time given to the learning. It will teach you the basics of what schools and colleges are as organisations and what their purpose is. Furthermore, a lot of the focus is on children and young people regarding their health and well-being, young people’s development, supporting children and young people’s behaviour, communication and professional relationships.
At the end of the programme, we will make an introduction to a local education recruiter or local school to enable you to start applying for roles straight away (10 of our previous learners have found work through this route)
